Western Saddles On eBay

Buying a western saddle used or new on eBay does not have to be fraught with danger if you use our buying tips and a little common sense. Happily the majority of sellers on eBay are honest people who want to give you good service.

Before you can buy anything on eBay you have to register, fortunately this is easy, quick and free!

When you find an item that you wish to purchase there may be a couple of options and the page will identify them for you.

1) Format- Every listing is one of several formats

  • Auction
  • Buy it now (BIN)
  • Store Items
  • Classified.

We will deal with the more common ones which are the auction and the BIN items.

When you visit eBay you are presented with a mixture of items in whatever category you choose. I always click the “Auction Only .” The reason for this is that it is generally in the auctions that the best oppurtunities lie. If the bidding is slow then you may pick up a real bargain! Some items do have a reserve price and so your bid must exceed that or the sale will not proceed. You will not know what the reserve is but the listing will state “reserve not met” until it is.

Buy It Now items are exactly that, you just click to buy and that is that. The only drawback is you are paying a set price and the oppurtunities for a bargain are restricted. However they are not impossible!

Once you have found your new or used western saddle you must do a couple of things.

  • Check out the sellers feedback
  • Check the postage fees

On the right hand side of the listing page is a link to the sellers feedback. Read the comments posted here and make up your mind as to whether you trust the seller. A feedback score of at least 95% is my guide and the further away from 100% the more closely I look.

Check the shipping costs as this used to be a way of upping the price on lower value items. eBay have clamped down on this so it is rarer than it used to be and shipping costs should be fair.

Always, always pay by Paypal, this way you have protection against rogue sellers and you can get your money back. Do NOT send bankers drafts, cash or use Western Union. Just don’t. See Paypals terms here
