After you have bought a horse the most important purchase will be your saddle. This buying guide is for anybody who wants to use the power of eBay to buy a western saddle at auction prices.
An important point to make is that a used western saddle of superior quality is much better than a new, cheap saddle, for your comfort and that of your horse always buy the best western saddle you can afford.
If at all possible try to lay your hands on the same saddle from a friend or tack shop, some tack shops will let you try their stock, and check for fit and comfort. The drawback of buying a saddle at auction is that you usually don’t have the opportunity to try it out.
By borrowing a similar saddle you can check the fit, size of seat and the riding position. It also allows you to see how the saddle looks on your horse.
Take a look round locally and at any other sources to determine what you will get for your budget. It is a waste of time to be looking at western saddle in the two thousand dollar range if you only have a thousand to spend.
Once you have decided on a style, checked the fit, and deternmined your budget you are ready to get bidding at an auction. Bear in mind all bids even on eBay are legally binding. If you bid and win you are obliged to pay.
